I have learned many things about India over these past few days. I have learned that India is the second populated country. In ten years they are excpected to pass China. Alot of India's population are poor and live in shanty towns. A shanty town is a slum settlement (sometimes illegal or unauthorized) of impoverished people who live in improvised dwellings made from scrap material. Life in these towns are hard to live in. Everyday you face danger wether it be prostitution, labor, or lack of needed materials.

Human Trafficing
Despite the reported extent of the trafficking crisis in India, government authorities made uneven efforts to prosecute traffickers and protect trafficking victims; government authorities continued to rescue victims of commercial sexual exploitation and forced child labor and child armed combatants, and began to show progress in law enforcement against these forms of trafficking; a critical challenge overall is the lack of punishment for traffickers, effectively resulting in impunity for acts of human trafficking.
It has seemed as if India is not trying to stop the problem. Kids are being exploited and that is not right. The kids in India are being stripped of their freedom and dignity. Little girls are being put on the streets and are being raped and doing sexual things. This is not the way these kids should have to live their lives. Billions of dollars are made each year from human trafficking. This is more than a problem. It has become a hard lifestyle that many in this world go through every day. Mostly kids from poor areas are taken to be used for trafficing. Some of the prostitutes are under the age of 18. Almost 200 women and young girls start prostituting each and every day. As a female you never know when u could possibly taken and forced to be a protitue. I am glad prostitution is not this bad in the U.S. We also need to stop this and I am glad our government tries to prevent our young women from living this lifestyle.

Mmbai riots
An estimated 575 Muslims and 275 Hindus died and 2,000 people were injured in the riots, and 250 people mostly Hindus died in the blasts. The riots started as a result of communal tension prevailing in the city. Many were killed. The riots were mostly caused by social indifference, government,or killings.
We watched more slum dog millionaire today. There was a riot and jamal's mother was killed during the fight. This helped jamal answer the question. while they were running they saw a god statue. The question was what was in the statue's right hand. The answer was a bow and arrow. We left off with the kids being hired as beggers trying to get money for a strange man.

Lost Boys
In 1987 there became a civil war in the Sudan. The North and the South were fighting. It was ordered that all males should be killed. a group of boys from all over the Sudan fled for their lives to Ethiopia. Ethiopia's government crashed so the boys fled to a refugee camp in Kenya. In the camp the boys get food and other needed supplies. Life is better than it was but it is still a hard life in the camp. When the food rations are low all the "Lost Boys" meet in a place they call the white house. In the whie house the boys sing, tell joke, and have fun until more supplies comes in. The war came to an end in 2005 when the two sides signed a peace agreement
On Friday we watched some of the "Lost Boys" trips to the US. The government paid for the Lost Boys trip to the US, but after three months the boys will have to pay it back. They get jobs at local factories to raise money. Church members and voluntiers help out and give them transportation. After the three months the boys need to do everything on their own. This should help jumpstart their lives as citizens of the US. Even though things are going great, the boys keep think about their brotheren back home in kenya. They continue to think of them and keep them in their prayers.

Who I am and What I will be
After college my dream would be to play in the NBA. I know this dream will take hard work and dedication for it to be a success. There are 60 picks and I want to be one of them. I am hoping to get an academic scholarship to the University of North Carolina (UNC). I am a two sport athlete. If I was to get a sport scholarship in basketball I would want to go to UNC. They have produced many NBA players. For my second sport football I would want to go to the University of Miami. Miami has a great football program and produced Raven players Ray Lewis, Ed Read, and Willis Mcgahee.
I would live in whatever city my team is located. That way I can make it to the stadium in no time. I would never want Coach to be mad, or not give me any playing time because I was late. A house near the stadium would defiantly pull me in because I could also go there and work out. There can never be too much practice. Also, I could ride a bike or maybe even walk. That would cut down on the use of gas and pollution.
If I wasn’t a professional sports player I would like to be a sports commentator. I would live in California or Florida. I love the beaches and warm weather. Also, I wouldn’t have to worry about snow or shoveling out my driveway. The only push force would be hurricanes and other natural disasters. I would have to find another house to live in during hurricane season. Now thinking of the expenses, I might not want to live in Florida. Also, if I live in California I would have to worry about earthquakes and landslides. I think I would rather be safe than have warm weather. Maybe I can make a choice when I’m older.
I come from a very different background. My mother’s side of the family is from Harford County. It’s funny because I am literally related to almost half the people of Harford County. My mother grew up in Church Hill Bel Air. It is not that far from the Harford Community College. Now my Aunt lives in the house they grew up in as kids. When I go to visit my Aunt I just think this is where it all started. I can picture my mom and her brothers and sisters running around having fun.
The most interesting thing about my heritage is that I am part Indian. My dad’s family resides from a tribe called Haliwa-Saponi. My Dad’s family is from Virginia and North Carolina. These two states are where the Haliwa-Saponi lived. I had always known I was Indian but not the exact tribe I belong to. I asked my grandmother for some background information. She called our relatives and I did some research.
Here is some information I found. The Haliwa-Saponi are located in eastern North Carolina, United States, one of eight Native American tribes recognized by the state. The Haliwa-Saponi hold membership on the North Carolina Commission of Indian Affairs. The name Haliwa is derived from the two counties: Halifax and Warren, which are the ancestral homelands of the Haliwa-Saponi. They were recognized by North Carolina in 1965. In 1979 the tribe added Saponi to their name to reflect their descent from the Saponi, Tuscarora, and Nansemond peoples of present-day Virginia and the Carolinas.
The tribe’s annual pow-wow was instituted in 1965 to celebrate state recognition of the tribal nation. The Haliwa-Saponi pow-wow is held the third weekend of April and is funded in part by ad sales, donations, corporate funding and gate receipts, in addition to grants from the North Carolina Arts Council. More than 100 volunteers and staff make the pow-wow happen. Attendance for the three-day event ranges from 9,000 to 10,000. Net profits for over the last three years have ranged from $18,000 to $35,000.
Since 1972, the tribe has also operated a cultural retention program funded by the North Carolina Arts Council and private contributions. Classes for tribal members of all ages are held twice weekly at the tribe’s multi-purpose building. The program includes instruction in pottery, beadwork/regalia design and construction, dance/drum classes, and Haliwa-Saponi history, as well as day trips to culturally relevant locations. I am so amazed by the history and culture that lies in my heritage.

The Life and Future of Eric Watson
Waz up fellow classmates you have just entered Eric's blog. Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I am a 5'11 freshman from John Carroll. I enjoy playing basketball and football. It just seems like the swish of the net, or the feel of the terf under my cleets just gives me excitement. I am not just an athelete. I am a student athelete. I believe school comes before sports because you can not make it to college with just talent you need the academics.
I also believe that with a John Carroll education i will have a bright future ahead of me. I look to improve my writing and keep an A in english. For this year i would like to be an honoral student and win a championship in a sport. I know this will be hardwork but i am looking forward to a challenge and ready to defeat it. Once i complete my four years at John Carroll I would like to be involved with sports. I would love to play college ball but if that is not the case i am hoping to become a sports caster and give my thoughts on NBA and NFL players. Well I am hoping that all goes well and that i can live my future as planned. This is Eric signing out suscribe to my blog and have a nice day.
